Qu'est-ce que Diversity & Inclusion Policy ?

Set of formal commitments, programmes and governance mechanisms through which an organisation structures its approach to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Definition

A Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) policy is a formal organisational framework that articulates commitments, priorities and governance structures for creating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. It translates DEI values into specific, measurable programmes and accountabilities.

In practice

Effective D&I policies go beyond statements of intent. They include: specific representation targets with timelines; accountability structures (D&I committee, executive sponsorship, third-party reporting); budget allocation for DEI initiatives; specific programme commitments (unconscious bias training, diverse hiring panels, sponsorship programmes, ERGs — Employee Resource Groups); measurement and public reporting of key metrics (gender pay gap, leadership diversity, inclusion index scores); and consequences for non-progress. Common failure modes include: policies with no measurable targets; D&I budgets cut first when times are hard; diversity targets without inclusion infrastructure; and D&I as a PR exercise rather than genuine culture change. In Belgium, Unia (interfederal equality body) provides guidance and resources for employers committed to workplace diversity and regularly publishes sector-level diversity data.

Key takeaway

A D&I policy without measurable targets, dedicated budget and executive accountability is a statement of good intentions, not a strategy — the gap between the two is where most DEI programmes fail.
